“Champions, champions, champions...”
“Pipe power, pipe power, pipe power...”
“Bend the Pipes, bend the Pipes, BEND THE PIPES…”
The noise from both sides was loud. Joram sat with Nick and Tomma, perhaps the only ones not cheering for somebody, and getting rude looks from the people around them because of that. Trying to take his mind off the guys sitting to his left who were jumping and chanting, Joram noticed two sets of titidium antennas on the sidelines, the second looking rather crudely constructed.
"What's the second power source?" he tried asking over the roar.
Nick only shrugged and Tomma gave him a blank look. He wasn’t sure if they heard him, and they seemed more involved with each other than to worry about trivialities of the match anyway. Cecil, Antony, and Jason took one corner of the energy ring, while Neal, Tim, and Mario took the other, and the roar became deafening.
“BEND THE PIPES, BEND THE PIPES, BEND THE PIPES…”
“PIPE POWER, PIPE POWER, PIPE POWER…”
"Shake hands," commanded Chris Venatio's voice over the omni-system that could barely be heard above the chanting. After both teams had met in the middle and retreated to their respective corners, Chris flipped on the power source, and announced the beginning of the fight to more cheers and shouts. But while both teams were energizing their power supplies, Joram saw Todd curiously manipulating the second source. He also noticed that as Cecil turned to a shadow, there was something different about him. It wasn't that he was smiling, but he also wasn't scowling as usual. Behind him, Stacy, Anika, and Earlen were moving along the outside of the ring. Neal looked over towards the girls and motioned to the other two, so that Tim and Mario subsequently adjusted some devices on their belts.
"The fight between the Champions and the Pipes will now begin…”
Neal had his mocking scowl on his face, but Tim and Mario's held intent killer looks, and as the three moved confidently towards their opposition, Cecil, Antony, and Jason of the Champions moved more edgily forward, constantly looking over to Todd as if for guidance. This seemed to give the Pipes even more confidence. Neal charged, finding Jason behind an artificial rock, blasted him, and sending him reeling to the floor.
Chris circled his arms signaling one was down. “PIPE POWER, PIPE POWER, PIPE POWER…”
The Pipes were energized. Tim took a shot at Cecil, but the black lightning narrowly missed him. Cecil shot back, but Tim took cover behind a wall-like obstacle, dark energy creating a deep gauge in the wall instead. Antony looked tentatively back to Todd, which was a mistake, because Neal took the opportunity to blast him, and he hit the ground outside the ring. There was once again the sequence of Chris' signal, the crowd's roar.
It was now only Cecil of the Champions against Neal, Tim, and Mario. Cecil scowled, his face becoming like hard rock, determined, fierce. Suddenly there was an explosion without anyone even firing a shot, and Tim was blown out of the ring. Chris made a circular motion and the Champion's fans cheered and chanted, “BEND THE PIPES, BEND THE PIPES, BEND THE PIPES…”
There was subsequently another explosion and Mario was blown to the floor. The crowd cheered louder as Chris made his motion. It was now down to Cecil against Neal.
Joram saw Neal look about wildly. He had seen no shots fired, yet two of the Pipes had been waylaid by seemingly empty air. Joram looked closer, but couldn’t see anything unusual. Cecil jumped across some downed foliage and fired. It was a brilliantly executed direct hit, and Neal didn't have a chance of staying on his feet.
The crowd stood to their feet. Cecil and the Champions had come from impossible odds and won.
