Campus Sports

It was a beautiful day at Atraville College, complete with sun high in the clear sky and short- sleeved-shirt type of warm weather, but not too hot. Although summer school was in full session, most students who didn't have classes (and many who did) were out in full force playing various types of ball games. The air soccer team was out, their black-and-white striped ball floating amongst Frisbees, softballs, footballs, and various other types of sports as Curt Elain, Eric Ludus, and other members of the air soccer team jumped high in the air to kick the ball back and forth. Some of their friends from the Pipes were there watching their practice: Bill Manias, Dustin Rajongo, and Jeff Gruppe.
The Champions were also out that day, including Todd Vals, Stacy Delecto and her two new friends, and Cecil Metus and his two followers. Cecil and company had a different type of sport, which involved using their Venatio energy weapons for target practice. Antony was the one who brought out the tennis balls, throwing one up, aiming his gun, and firing. Streaks of black lightning shot past the ball, missing it by inches.
"You missed," Cecil screamed through his clenched teeth.
"You try it then!" Anthony yelled back, angry at missing and at being yelled at by Cecil. But that's always the wrong thing to do with Cecil. Brad just watched and held his breath.
Cecil put his face directly into Antony's. "I think I will. I've got to do it with more than one ball, though," he said finally turning his face away from Anthony's. Relieved, Brad slowly exhaled.
Cecil picked up three of the balls and shoved them towards Antony. "Here, you throw these up in the air and watch how this is done."
Antony did as he was ordered while Cecil stood ready with his gun pointed upwards. Antony threw all three balls up into the air as high as he could and Cecil slung his gun, firing rapidly. Black lightning shot upward from his hand as he knocked out one ball, and then two balls. Suddenly, a black-and-white air-soccer ball smacked into the third ball and knocked it clear across the area before Cecil had a chance to bag his prize. The air-soccer ball continued gracefully as Curt Elain, a guy with stubby red hair, ran through the area chasing it across the grounds.
"He ruined my shot," Cecil screamed. Anthony and Brad stood staring at him, wondering what he was going to do. Brad took a deep breath and held it again. No one ever interrupted Cecil like that and not paid the repercussions. Back in his days of running with the gangs, many had paid dearly for such infractions. He wasn't going to allow it this time either. Cecil aimed at Curt's back and fired. Black lightning leapt from his hand and hit Curt in his back just as he was about to leap and kick the ball. A gasp shot through not only Anthony and Brad, but also through the Pipes Bill, Dustin, and Jeff, and the other Champions Todd, Stacy, Anika, and Earlen.
The Pipes and the other air soccer players, were incensed. "He was just going for the ball," exclaimed the popular star, Eric Ludus.
       "It's because he's a Pipe," spat Dustin.
"It's because he's a spinning proton," said Bill.
"He wasn't even wearing an energy shield," said another of the soccer players.
.        "The spinning proton is going to pay!" said an angry Bill. He pulled out his own gun, aimed at Cecil and fired. Brad however had seen it coming and slammed his shoulder into Cecil's stomach knocking them both over just as the black lightning shrieked over there streak above them.
Cecil, gasping for air, was momentarily furious with Brad. But when he realized what happened, he was even more furious with Bill and the Pipes. He and Brad both jumped to their feet swinging their weapons and firing at Bill, Jeff, Dustin, and anyone else they could find, whether they were Pipes or not. With screams and shouts, students scattered and dove for any kind of cover they could find. The Pythagoras area had turned into a war zone.
For Cecil and his boys, however, this didn't prove to be the best strategy. While they were busy firing at anything they saw that moved, the Pipes had quietly crept behind some nearby bushes.
       "Where'd they go?" Cecil asked.
"Don't know," Brad replied. Antony looked around quietly, watchfully.
"On my word," Bill said from behind some nearby bushes. They watched as the three came closer.
"I can get them from here," Dustin squeaked.
       "Wait," Bill ordered.
Cecil, Brad, and Antony moved slowly closer, searching for their adversaries.
Just as Bill was about to raise his hand, a voice like that of an angel sounded behind him.
"You boys shouldn't do that," said Stacy Deleto.
Bill, Jeff, and Dustin whirled around to see three shimmering figurines of loveliness. Stacy, Anika Perperam, and Earlen Uetke moved gracefully amongst their mesmerized prey, fingering necklaces with dark jewelry.
"Let me finish them off," Cecil said eagerly, pointing his gun at Bill's forehead while Bill stared unblinkingly at Stacy.
"Hold on," said Todd Vals behind him. “I need them for just a little longer.”
