“That was sure spinning of you to make us these,” said Anika.
“I'm on your side," Stacy said sweetly, "and I hate the Pipes.”
Armed with dark charms, Anika, Earlen, and Stacy strolled across the central campus on a beautiful spring day, turning heads wherever they went. A guy on the sidewalk stopped and gawked at them as they walked passed him. Another looked thoroughly confused, caught under the strange power. Several more abruptly changed directions and began to follow them. When the three reached the doors of the student center, three guys coming the other way stopped and opened the doors for them, two of them fighting over one of the doors.
“Let me carry your pack for you,” said a lanky guy to Anika as she went through the door.
“I don't have one,” she responded sharply, which caused him to look thoroughly embarrassed.
When they entered the center, they caused even more commotion. Conversations suddenly stopped as they walked passed, and even more heads turned in their direction.
“I like this,” crooned Earlen after a group of guys sitting at a table made some rude comments when they walked passed.
“Do you see them?” asked Stacy.”
“See who?”
“Any of them: Werner, Neal, Tim, Bill. I want to find Chris Venatio.”
"How about those guys over there," Anika said, pointing to a table of three guys seated halfway across the U-shaped restaurant area. "Aren’t they in the Pipes? Isn't that Bill Manias, Jeff Gruppe, and I don't know the third."
"It's Dustin Rajongo," added Stacy. "But you have to be closer for it to work."
"Let's go over there, then," laughed Earlen.
So the three girls approached the table of three guys, who up to that point had been laughing and carousing over amber-colored energy drinks. They suddenly became quiet, staring with something like open mouthed admiration as the girls came within range.
“Is that Anika and Earlen?” Joram asked Nick as they headed through the center towards their Quantum Extrapolation class.
"Where?"
"Over there, by Dustin and those other guys."
"That's Bill and Jeff," answered Nick. "And yeah, I think that's Anika and Earlen."
"What are they doing with them?" Joram asked. "Are they with the Pipes? Do they know them?"
Nick's expression changed completely, however, because he recognized the third one with them. Before Joram could stop him, Nick was rushing over to see Stacy.
