At the end of the twentieth century, physicists hypothesized that there were more than just the three spacial dimensions and time to our world. Many physicists were saying there were ten dimensions, others saying up to twenty-six. German physicist Greta Gero set out to find one of these extra dimensions, and succeeded. Using a newly completed high energy particle accelerator in Mannheim, Germany, she blasted together two alpha particle streams at the highest energy yet realized and opened the first compactified dimension, called the Gero dimension in her honor. The amount of energy that poured out of that experiment was astounding beyond measure, and was called Gero energy (see also “What is Gero energy?” and “Who is Dr. Greta Gero?”).
